How long have you lived or worked in Haringey, and whereabouts in the borough are you?

I spent over 30 years in Haringey, around Tottenham Green, Seven Sisters and Tiverton. I find poetry in its everyday life: overheard conversations, the rhythm of people passing through, languages and cuisines from across the world. West Green Road fascinates me. It deserves to be studied as a cultural space in its own right. In one stretch, you can trace stories of migration, identity, enterprise and a London that is changing.

How does Haringey inspire you?

Haringey inspires me because of its boldness. It speaks the language of innovation and rebellion, but community is sewn into its tapestry. Growing up there taught me creativity can challenge convention while staying connected to people and place.

What are you exploring in your creative practice at the moment?

Currently, I’m interested in what happens to words as they travel between generations. Language is never still; meaning shifts with culture, memory and experience. Listening is central to my practice. Before an idea takes shape, I observe how people speak, what changes between generations and what sits beneath the words.

What is the best creative advice you've received?

The best creative advice I’ve received is that no artist creates in a vacuum. Our work belongs to a wider conversation. For me, creativity is not only about making something; it is about building bridges, sharing knowledge, connecting people and leaving something useful for the next person.

What are you looking forward to about Haringey's London Borough of Culture?

For Haringey’s London Borough of Culture, I’m excited to see the borough tell its story on its own terms. I’m particularly interested in creating work that brings generations together to explore what we inherit, what we carry forward and what we want to pass on. I’m developing an idea around that now, but I’ll keep it under wraps until it takes shape!

What is your favourite hidden gem in Haringey?

My hidden gem is West Green Road, with Ally Pally offering perspective when I wander.

What does being a "rebel" mean to you?

A rebel isn’t quiet. A rebel isn’t loud. A rebel simply stays true to who they are.
